Dear Residents,

I hope this summer has been delightful for you.  The weather has been much cooler than usual.  City sponsored recreation programs still have a few openings.  Please check this newsletter for a listing of August programs.  Most participants seem to appreciate the activities.  So come join us for some summer fun.

The fourteen-member Recreation & Open Space Long Range Study Committee will soon make its recommendations to City Council.  Several new and exciting ideas are proposed.  Just recently we completed meeting with five focus groups to get more citizen input.  We plan to publish the recommendations in the fall newsletter.

In November we will have a new voting precinct in our city.  All voters who live on College Park Drive, Sorority Court, Fraternity Court (odd #'s only), Legends Way, Champions Way, Palmer Court, Nicklaus Court, Trevino Ridge Drive, Tuscany Valley Court, Sonoma Valley Court, Santa Clara Valley Court, Right Fork Road, and Horsebranch Road will now vote at Atria Summit Lakes (2625 Legends Way).  This extra voting place should help speed up the voting lines at the city building.  This November 7th will be an important voting date since you will be casting ballots for all members of City Council and the U.S. presidency.

City Council has asked the Kenton County & Municipal Planning & Zoning Commission (KC&MP&ZC) to consider a text amendment to our HLC District.  This district takes in the area around People's Bank, the Shinkle Mansion and the condominiums on Mansion Place and Summer Lane.  The text amendment would allow studios for furniture design, art, photography, and music instruction to locate in this district.  If you have an opinion on this expanded use, please attend the public hearing at the KC&MP&ZC offices at 2332 Royal Drive on August 3 at 6:30 PM.  Call the city building if you need a copy of the text amendment or if you have any questions.

The City is also working on amendments to our zoning regulations pertaining to the size of a bathhouse for a pool and pertaining to the parking and storage of trailers, boats, mobile homes, campers and inoperable vehicles.  These changes will also be submitted to the KC&MP&ZC for a public hearing.  Please call our City Administrator, if you have any questions concerning these changes.

In closing, I want to announce that our Vice Mayor and Councilman, Harold Ries has won the St. Luke Community Foundation Vision Award for 18 years of volunteer service to the hospital.  Congratulations Harold!!

Have a GREAT SUMMER and please drive carefully.

Sincerely,

       Paul W. Meier, Mayor
